Sandy beach with small waves and a headland in the background
The air is different at the ocean. I can smell it. It’s not just cleaner or fresher, but there’s the tang of salt and something else, something… undefineable. And I…

The sun streams in through the kitchen window in it’s pre-sunset blaze of yellow. After a long grey day the colour is a welcome source of comfort as night approaches.…

It’s the time of year when the clocks go back and it feels like the days suddenly get really dark. Which they do. It’s usually grey, rainy and drizzly here…

The crunch of crisp brown leaves underfoot. The shimmer of sun on water. The rustle of wind in the reeds. These autumn landscapes affect me deeply. The way the leaves…

Why I do this: There are some moments which wrench us out of our everyday drudgery and catapult us into another world. A world of raw emotion, of beauty, of connection, of clarity. Usually when I come back to my regular state of mind after one of these moments, I wonder how I can hang on to some of that sense of perfection which these moments have at their core. This Slow Mind is my experiment with capturing that sense of transcendence in the everyday. A moment, a thought, a feeling, which reminds me there is more to this life than rushing from one day to the next. It’s my hope in that doing so, I may invite them to happen more often, and I can experience more of these tiny moments of bliss. And perhaps in reading them, you may be inspired to see more of these moments in your own life. Little bite sized chunks of perfection in the vast sea of normal. The next time it happens, take a mental polaroid, translate it into words and pictures, load it up and let it fly.
